Short answer: Josh.ai is the best voice-first system for privacy-conscious luxury homes and pairs natively with Lutron; Control4 suits homes that want one dealer-programmed remote for everything, especially heavy video and AV; Home Assistant is the tinkerer’s choice – enormously capable, but you become your own integrator. For most high-end Okanagan builds we install Josh.ai on a Lutron RadioRA 3 + UniFi backbone.

What matters more than the brand
Any of these systems is only as reliable as the network and electrical underneath it. A $40,000 control system on a $300 router fails weekly. A recent lakefront project: Josh.ai Core, Lutron RadioRA 3 across the whole home, Sivoia QS shades, and an enterprise UniFi network with PoE cameras and sensors. The Josh software plan alone was about $4,300; the result is a home that responds to “goodnight” by locking up, dimming the lights, dropping the shades and arming the cameras – with no voice data sold to anyone.
