Case Study: A Lakefront Smart Estate in the Central Okanagan

One contractor. One licence. A lakefront home where the electrical, the network, the lighting, the shades and the voice control were designed together – and it shows. Here’s what actually went into a recent Pfitztech estate project, with real components, because “we do luxury smart homes” means nothing without the parts list.

The brief

A new lakefront build. The owners wanted a home that responds to voice without selling their conversations to an ad company, shades that manage the sun on big glass, cameras they can trust, and WiFi that works at the dock. And one phone number when anything needs attention – not an electrician pointing at an AV guy pointing at an IT guy.

What we installed

  • Voice & automation: Josh.ai Core processor – private, voice-first control of the whole home (software plan ~$4,300)
  • Lighting: Lutron RadioRA 3 throughout – dimmers, Sunnata keypads with engraved scenes, Pico remotes
  • Shades: Lutron Sivoia QS Triathlon motorized shades on the lake-facing glass, architectural fascia colour-matched front and back
  • Network: Ubiquiti UniFi – UDM Pro Max gateway, Enterprise 24-port PoE switching, U7 access points in-ceiling and in-wall, point-to-point wireless to the outbuildings, and a smart PDU so individual devices can be power-cycled remotely
  • Cameras & entry: UniFi Protect G5 cameras and doorbell with local recording – no monthly cloud fees, no footage leaving the property
  • Audio & theatre: Bluesound whole-home audio, Sony display and Marantz processing in the media room – all integrated into Josh

The part nobody sees

Every one of those systems rides on structured cabling we ran ourselves, on circuits we designed as the FSR-B licensed electrical contractor of record – load-calculated, permitted and inspected through Technical Safety BC. When “goodnight” locks the doors, drops the shades, dims forty-plus circuits and arms the cameras, it works because the wiring underneath was planned for it before drywall.

Life with it

The owners talk to the house and it answers privately. Shades track the sun’s heat on the glass. The network is monitored from our dashboard – when an access point misbehaves, we usually fix it remotely before anyone at the house notices. That ongoing watch is exactly what our Care Plans formalize.
